Karen Shank Foundation

The Karen Shank Foundation was created in 2005 in memory of our dear friend Karen Shank to commemorate and celebrate her life by carrying on her spirit making a difference through community involvement.

Our organization strives to raise awareness of the many needs in our local communities and to promote participation through volunteering in our day-to-day lives.

To this end the Karen Shank Foundation has organized a number of events including volunteer days, social nights and most notably charity volleyball tournaments. In the 16 months since its founding, the Karen Shank Foundation has raised funds nearing $20,000 for local charities including; Halton Women's Place, Eden Food Bank and The Canadian Red Cross.

At the root of the Foundation is the energy and spirit of the person whose name it carries, Karen Shank. It was the way Karen carried herself and lived her life that inspired the founding members to start the foundation. She saw a problem in the local community and found a way to solve it or to raise awareness about it to inspire others to remedy the problem.

The Karen Shank Foundation is a living breathing organism whose life blood is its Board of Directors, event volunteers and event participants. We are constantly on the look out for fresh faces with fresh ideas to help us in our mission of promoting awareness and involvement through volunteerism in our community.
